Glass Cullet in Landscaping

At the beginning of the article "The Nature of Glass" by David Zax (Smithsonian Magazine, April 2007, pages 84-87),
primarily about Dale Chihuly's exhibit at the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in Coral Gables, Florida, Zax writes:
