Additional Information: Are you a creative person who thrives on making things and exploring ideas? Would you like to design and make innovative high quality artefacts using ceramics or glass? Ceramics and Glass at NCAD embraces numerous types of creative practice from design for manufacture to the unique crafted art object or architectural installation. The programme aims to help you develop your artistic and design sensibilities. What Will I Study? The programme takes the position that designing from a deep and sensitive knowledge of a material means that you are able to more effectively translate that experience into other materials and disciplines, either during or after your studies. Through an informed practical knowledge of materials and creative processes you will challenge conventions and apply your skills in a way that will continue to present new opportunities for you as a contemporary artist, maker and designer so that you With individual bench spaces, machine workshops and studio, the programme provides the perfect environment to experiment and explore in pursuit of personal expression. Students develop a personal creative identity and proficiency in design and techni Year 1 The First Year is divided into three blocks. The first ten weeks is a common diagnostic multi- disciplinary experience across art and design, the second ten weeks focuses on Design and allows the student to experience a range of design disciplines, and begin to develop the key creative, technical and thinking skills required by a 21st century designer. The final ten weeks is within the specific Design discipline you have chosen, providing a strong foundation for the senior years of study. Throughout the year a day a week is devoted to studies in Visual Culture. Year 2 The focus in the Second Year is on developing a personal visual language and the skills necessary to translate this into successful Ceramics and Glass practice. You will also focus on researching and defining a specific audience and developing a market and gallery understanding through professional practice. Year 3 In the Third Year students are ready to develop their own programme of study, which reflects each individual’s skills and interests within Ceramics and/or Glass. This will culminate in a substantial body of work for assessment and display at degree shows, exhibitions and events. Each year is supported by a series of lectures by leading creative practitioners and theorists, collaborative interdisciplinary opportunities, live industry projects, field trips and study visits.
