Additional Information: Crossing Xaquixe’s threshold, you enter a laboratory for exploration. A choreographed dance with fire, oven and pipe. Each movement and breath is a new construction. A sphere of air transformed into glass, pitcher, bottle, plate. Sculpture defined by the restrictions and fluidity of glass formed through strict technique and subtle creativity. Shapes in three dimensions of the highest aesthetic quality produced with social consciousness. Studio Xaquixe turned 10 years old on February 25 2012. Recently, our Artistic Director, Christian Thornton, and some of his designs have been included in the page RAREculture , a globally recognized site for the sale of art and design. As part of the initiative of Cultures Euroaxaqueña Transformer , last month hosted the Xaquixe Studio visual artist from Brussels, Bart Van Deput, who is working with Christian in the creation of the "Golden Cloud" that combines recycled glass and solar cells ... . amazing! Check this interview with Christian who made the American Craft Council. Gives focus on the work of several artists to develop projects that link us and remind us of natural resources and sustainability. Along with the artwork of Christian, he has never abandoned its efforts in its continued pursuit of sustainability for Xaquixe, so lately has been devoted to testing to adapt a liquid burner using waste vegetable oil as fuel! Studio Xaquixe as a teaching institution has been working for over eight years to offer a diverse set of courses on the principal techniques of sustainable glass production. What makes our coursework distinct is that we teach within an ecosystem. Fundmental to our teaching process are the learned skills of ecological practices and the recycling of materials in our work. The techniques we employ are unique to the infrastructure of our facilities and the personalized attention each student receives in our workshops offering guidance on the safe handling of tools, materials and ovens applied in accordance with the techniques of each course and the impact on our environment. |
