Goodbye 2006, Hello 2007!

Thank you! 2006 has been an outstanding first year for all of us
at East Falls Glassworks. We thank our students, renters, patrons
and supporters. Because of you, the studio has had an extremely
successful year. We are excited for the opportunities of the new
year and have lots of great things planned. All our expectations
for the first year in operation have been exceeded.

First Anniversary Party - January 13th
All are welcome to join us on Saturday, January 13th for our First
Anniversary Party. Festivities are planned from noon till 6:00.
There will be free glassblowing and refreshments. Everyone from
the glass community is welcome to help out with the demos.

East Falls Glassworks has grown from an empty space in an old
fabric mill into one of the centers of glass making in
Philadelphia. These days, it feels like we can't melt glass fast
enough to satisfy the demands of the local glass community. Our
classes and experiences are filling up a month in advance. These
are good problems to have!

Over the past year, we've held 11 monthly open houses,
participated in several prestigious regional craft shows, helped
well over 100 people work with glass for the first time, hosted a
Muranese Maestro for several days and somewhere in there made the
time to blow some glass.

The biggest thrill for us has been seeing our students' skills
grow as they share our enthusiasm for glass as a medium and a form
of expression. The students who started with us back in the
beginning of the year have now progressed through a few classes
and are renting time and making their own artistic creations.

Over the next year, East Falls Glassworks has several goals, we'd
like to share some of them with you, to give some idea of the
studio's direction.

Broadened Class Offerings
As students have progressed through our Introductory curriculum,
we recognize the need for more advanced classes focussing on
specific styles or techniques. We have a couple of 8 week
Intermediate classes coming up as well as an advanced Master
Workshop. Check our the classes page on our website for full
details on the upcoming classes. There are more Intermediate
classes on the drawing board, including classes on bitwork and
canework, look for these in the summer.

Gallery Showcases
There is a lot of amazing glass art being made at East Falls
Glassworks. Over the next year, we are adding a 'Gallery Showcase'
to the web site with sections dedicated to the artists who make
work at East Falls Glassworks. If you are interested in putting
your portfolio online, please let us know. We've spent a lot of
effort creating an Internet presence and the online portfolios
will allow a much greater audience to see your work. We are proud
to see the fine (and diverse) work being made here.

Master Classes
In addition to Elio Quarisa's Master Class in February (there are
still a couple of spots left), we holding discussions with a few
other world-renowned glass artists about the possibilities of
intensive Master Classes later in the year. We will send
announcements about these classes once the details are finalized.

Your Comments are Welcome
We have some of our own ideas for the direction and growth of the
studio; ultimately East Falls Glassworks exists to serve the glass
community. Please let us know if you have any ideas about how to
improve the studio or our offerings in 2007.

Again, thanks for a great year! We look forward to seeing you all
next year and blowing some more glass!

  - Jon and Owen
