July 26th - Join Us for the Hotshop
Hoedown! East Falls Glassworks is holding its biggest party ever
on Saturday, July 26th! There will be live music, refreshments
and plenty of activities. It is our first ever "Hotshop Hoedown"
! The Hoedown starts at 3:00 and ends at 9:30.
Furnace Benefit Auction We will be holding an auction during the
Hoedown; all proceeds going towards East Falls Glasswork's new
furnace. All artists are invited to donate work for the auction;
work can be dropped off anytime or mailed to East Falls
Glassworks. This is a chance to purchase work made by local
artists, knowing that 100% of the purchase will go towards
improving Philadelphia's public access glassblowing facility.
The silent auction ends at 8:00, and the live auction starts at
8:15.
Hoedown Activities Glassblowing Demonstrations: There will be
free demonstrations by many of our community artists. Any
visiting glassblowers are welcome to join in the demonstrations.
Live Music: There are two confirmed bands: rock and a bluegrass
trio. Rib Cook Off: Yum ribs. 4-5PM and 7-8PM Raffle: We will
be raffling off glassblowing lessons and some other East Falls
Glassworks stuff. Other Stuff: There is more planned! Bring
yourself, your family, your friends, your neighbors and prepare
for a great time.
Classes and Schedule Update The new furnace is going to be
installed during the end of August. There are no new classes
scheduled between now and then. We have planned our September
classes; they are posted on our classes page, and you can use
the online 'Class Registration' feature to sign up for any of
the new classes. Over the next few weeks, we will schedule
classes through the end of the year.
Elio is Returning February 2009 Elio Quarisa is a Muranese Primo
Maestro and a good friend of ours. Maestro Quarisa started
working at Barovier & Toso in Murano in 1949. Since, he's
collaborated with many of the great designers and worked at a
number of the top furnaces.
Elio is scheduled to teach a three day intensive workshop Feb.
8th - 11th 2009. We will send out more information as we figure
things out, but we wanted to give as much notice as possible so
you can reserve the dates on your calendar. Drop us an email if
you are interested.
We Need Your Help - Spread the Word East Falls Glassworks
depends on referrals for most of our business. Tell your friends
about us; link to us from your website. Spread the word!
Thanks to all our renters, class participants, visitors and to
everyone who has helped to make the Philadelphia glass community
as vibrant as it is today! We only exist because of you.
