Much like an Olympic ice skater, Elio makes the most complex glass
techniques, such as Reticello, seem positively effortless...
Master Class with Elio Quarisa : Feb Feb. 26 – Mar. 3 3, 2007

East Falls Glassworks is pleased to announce that Maesto Elio Quarisa
will be here from
Monday, February 26th though Saturday, March 3rd. We are offering glass
students the chance to
study with this acclaimed master for a week. This advanced master glass
blowing class is an
intensive week of study. Each day starts with 4 hours of
demonstrations, followed by lunch, then
3 hours of glass blowing time under Elio's supervision. Free studio
time is then available for
another 4 hours. The class runs from Monday through Saturday; most
likely we will need to turn
Wednesday into a half-day to allow time to recharge the glass in the
furnace.
If you are interested in this class, please send us email so that we
can add you to the list. We
expect this class to fill quickly, so let us know ASAP if you are
interested. The cost for the class
is $750.

Venetian Techniques Covered

Among the techniques covered, Elio will teach thinly blown Venetian
Goblets, Reticello, Incalmo,
animal stems (Dragon, Swan, Dolphin), Mezzo-Filigree, Mezzo-Stampo and
any other glass
blowing techniques that the students would like to learn.

Lodging Arrangements

Sherman Mills is in the process of building a number of hotel rooms
upstairs from the studio.
We are not 100% sure if these rooms will be available for students; if
not we can arrange a
group rate at a convenient hotel and provide transportation to and from
the studio. If you are
traveling and need accommodations, please let us know. We will do our
best to help and will try to
secure a group rate for lodging if there is enough demand.
About Elio Quarisa

Elio began in the Murano glass factories at nine years of age. In 1949
started working at the
Barovier & Toso glass studio where he stayed for 27 years. He left
Barovier and Toso as an
affirmed Primo Maestro. Since then he's worked with most of the great
studios and designers on
Murano, including the studios: Seguso Vetri D'Arte, Venini, Moretti
Ulderico, Vetreria De Mayo
and Elite. He currently lives on Murano and travels the world teaching
to the next generation of
glass blowers. We are extremely privileged that Elio teaches classes at
our facility.
