<h1>Garden art, with drama and whimsy, for sale</h1>
<h2>Among highlights from the 150 vendors are exquisite glass and
Celtic stone pieces.</h2>
<!-- begin body-content -->
<p>Feel no shame if a big part of your Flower Show experience is about
shopping. This is the right time, and certainly the right place, to
find useful and unusual things for your garden.</p>
<p>All things horticultural will be available from more than 150
vendors: seeds, bulbs and plants; garden gloves, lights and tools;
outdoor furniture, botanical art and pottery; herbal teas, dried
flowers, and so much more.</p>
<p>But the Flower Show also is about the artistic, those irresistible
offerings designed to lift the spirit and bring drama and whimsy to any
outdoor space.</p>
<p>Barbara Sanderson, a Seattle glassblower and gardener, will offer
wiggly glass icicles for $90 to $125 and mini-flowers, carrots and
feathers mounted on copper stakes for $35 each.</p>
<p>One of Sanderson's signature items is a fountain kit, which includes
a blown-glass fountain bowl, the tripod fountain stand, water pump, and
tubing. A small kit runs $165, a large one $185.</p>
<p>Her pieces recall the fanciful blown-glass sculptures of well-known
artist Dale Chihuly. And they may look delicate, but she insists
they'll hold up outside year-round.</p>
<p>"I'm Canadian by birth, the snow belt, so I'll be bringing a poster
of all these sculptures covered in snow," says Sanderson, whose Glass
Gardens NW (<a href="http://www.glassgardensnw.com">www.glassgardensnw.com</a>)
will be in Booth 512.</p>
<p>Another unusual vendor, one that echoes the show's Irish theme, is
John Cullen of Celtic Garden Imports in Dexter, Mich. He deals in 17th-
and 18th-century objects salvaged from old farms in the counties of
Dublin, Waterford and Wicklow.</p>
<p>Among Cullen's favorites are the staddlestones, which look like
3-foot-tall stone mushrooms and were used by farmers to raise corn
cribs and haystacks off the ground. Rats and mice were unable to get
inside because of the stones' rounded tops. They sell for $1,200 to
$2,200.</p>
<p>Cullen, who buys directly from farmers, also will have 6-foot-tall
granite fence posts once used to demarcate property lines between
farms. Cost: $1,200 and up. (But what an accent piece for your garden.)</p>
<p>For buyers with a smaller budget, or more self-control, Cullen
offers stone Celtic crosses and botanical plaques, fashioned to look
old, for $10 to $100. His Celtic Garden Imports booth (<a
href="http://www.celticgardenimports.com">www.celticgardenimports.com</a>)
is No. 639.</p>
