ARTISTS TO
ENTER GLASS COMPETITION<o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%;">BETHLEHEM, PA--Glass
artists
throughout the nation are being invited to submit entries for the
Banana
Factory’s inaugural Fire & Ice Glass Masters Competition, a juried
competition where artists compete for cash prizes while assisting the
Bethlehem-based art center in raising funds for its artistic and
educational
programs for children and the community.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0.5in; line-height: 150%;">The
Glass Masters
Competition is open to all artists working in glass. Artists are asked
to
donate a piece of work for the Banana Factory’s Fire & Ice Gala,
the
annual fund-raiser for its GlassWorks hot glass studio, and everyone
who
donates a work of art will be entered into the competition, with the
winners announced
at this year’s gala, set for Oct. 19, 7 p.m.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0.5in; line-height: 150%;">The
Glass Masters
Competition is being judged by a panel comprised of Ricardo Viera,
director/curator of the Lehigh University Art Galleries; Christine I.
Oaklander, Ph.D., Arts Coordinator for Lehigh Valley Hospital &
Health
Network and private art consultant; Paul Farr, glass art collector and
CFO of
PPL Corp.; GlassWorks Creative Director James Harmon and GlassWorks
Studio
Manger John Choi. The winner of the competition will receive $1,500,
second place will receive $1,000 and third place will receive a $500
cash
award. All works in the competition will be showcased at the Fire
&
Ice Gala, with guests who attend the gala having the opportunity to bid
on the
art via silent and live auctions. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0.5in; line-height: 150%;">“This
inaugural
Glass Masters Competition is an important aspect of GlassWorks at the
Banana
Factory’s commitment to showcasing glass artists and educating the
community on the fine art of glass,” said Banana Factory Director of
Visual Arts and Education Janice Lipzin. “The distinguished jurors and
the cash prizes add credibility to the event, and guests at Fire &
Ice can
catch the excitement by bidding on their favorite works.”<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0.5in; line-height: 150%;">Artists
interested
in entering the competition should submit their original glass work
with the
official Glass Masters entry form clearly labeled and attached to the
piece.
Submissions will be accepted from Aug. 15-Sept 15. Entry forms are
available by

Banana
Factory’s Fire & Ice Gala is designed to showcase the GlassWorks
studio, the Banana Factory’s dynamic, hands-on educational facility
dedicated to promoting an understanding and appreciation of the art of
blown
glass and glassmaking process. The event celebrates the magic of glass
with an
elegant evening of sparkling libations, fine food, live music, hot
glass
demonstrations and glass art. This year the Banana Factory is also
pleased to feature internationally-known glass artists Einar and Jamex
de la Torre,
who will be doing a special glass demonstration during the gala. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0.5in; line-height: 150%;">The
Banana Factory
is a nonprofit community art center and gallery featuring 28 studio
artists,
the GlassWorks glass studio, community classrooms, a gift shop and
