at the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, Reading, in the beginning of
March. Primarily, he helps in the glass blowing studio, as he is a
glass artist.<br>
<br>
"I just did it at first to earn volunteer hours for studio time and
classes," he said. "So I started in the hot glass studio."<br>
<br>
Santo Domingo is present at weekly glass-blowing demonstrations held in
the studio and during Second Sunday open houses.<br>
<br>
"I did a lot of volunteer work with the summer camp for kids," he said.<br>
<br>
He
often assists Nathaniel Dubbs, glass and ceramics studio manager, and
helps make items for sale in the GoggleWorks Store, in addition to
helping with general studio upkeep. On average, he volunteers there
five days a week, as his schedule permits.<br>

glass blowing, you need an assistant 95 percent of the time, so that's
what we do," he said. "We assist one another in whatever needs to be
made. We work directly with each other."<br>
<br>
Santo Domingo said one of the things he enjoys most about volunteering
is the social aspect.<br>
<br>
"Just
the atmosphere and the people-they are really nice," he said. "You get
to meet a lot of new people. It's just a good place for networking and
getting art out there."<br>
<br>
He also has volunteered for Friends Inc., Kutztown, where he helps from
time to time with events and advertising.<br>

class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>"The
thing I enjoy the most is teaching the teens and the kids," he said.
"That was definitely neat getting to be the teacher and seeing the
kids."<br>
<br>
He also cited, "the interaction with people and being able to give back
to the community," as rewards.<br>
<br>
Advice
to others: "Do more of it (volunteering)," Santo Domingo said. "A lot
of people don't have all the time in the world, but it lets you get
outside yourself and that's a good feeling to be able to help somebody
else out. Come out to the GoggleWorks and express yourself."<br>
