SCC to host "Masters Class" with Vittorio Costantini & Paul Stankard

Salem Community College will offer a rare opportunity to study glass with
world-renowned artists Vittorio Costantini and Paul J. Stankard. The
three-day “Masters Class” will take place March 25-27 at Salem Community
College’s Glass Education Center in Alloway, N.J. and will include an
afternoon at Stankard’s private studio. It follows SCC’s annual
International Flameworking Conference, March 22-24.

Participants will receive individual instruction, watch demonstrations and
engage in conversations with the masters.

Costantini began an apprenticeship in a glass factory at age 11. Since he
opened his own workshop, flameworking has become his true focus and passion.
He always had an innate fascination for nature; all his creations show great
mastery and love for nature. The Burano, Italy native spends endless hours
creating individual pieces: multi-colored insects, iridescent butterflies,
birds, fish and colorful flowers, all the result of his amazing talent
demonstrating his masterful skill.

His artistic talent has led him to participate in numerous exhibitions in
Italy and abroad. In 2012, he exhibited at the Museo del Vetro in Murano and
Musée de France Opale Sud in Berck-sur-Mer, France.

A pioneer in the studio-glass movement, Stankard has established an
international reputation for interpreting nature in glass with his floral
art. He maintains an active career in the studio, while teaching at
institutions like Penland School of Crafts, The Studio at the Corning Museum
of Glass and Urban Glass. He also serves as an adjunct instructor and artist
in residence at SCC.

His work is represented in more than 70 museums worldwide, including the
Renwick Gallery of the National Museum of American Art in Washington, D.C.;
the Victoria and Albert Museum in London; the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in
Paris; the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City; the Corning Museum
of Glass; and the Museum of American Glass at WheatonArts and Cultural
Center in Millville.

The class costs $950 for out-of-town students, which includes three nights’
lodging, breakfasts, lunches and materials; or $550 for commuters, which
includes lunches and materials.
