I was fortunate to meet Paul Stankard in Corning NY before he gave a
talk/demo of his awesome paperweight-making.

He even signed his inspirational book

Below is information about a more local lecture in Alloway NJ next week,
which I would recommend attending if you can.

Salem Community College Artist-in-Residence and Distinguished Alumnus Paul
J. Stankard will present "Scientific Glassblowing in Service of Science and
Art" on Wednesday, Oct. 9.

This free lecture and demonstration will begin at 5 p.m. at the Samuel H.
Jones Glass Education Center, 286 Welchville Road, Alloway NJ 08098.

Stankard, an SCC 1963 graduate in Scientific Glassblowing and an
internationally respected glass artist from Mantua, has dedicated the
lecture to the college's past and present glass instructors.

"There is something very interesting happening in the contemporary glass
flameworking world and it's evidenced by our increased enrollment at Salem
Community College," said Stankard, who chairs SCC's International
Flameworking Conference. "I'm proud of the college's role in training the
leaders and workforce in the scientific glass industry.

"It is a remarkable testimony to our nation's community college system and a
great example of how this flagship program has been relevant for over 50
years in a constantly changing industry."

The only program of its kind in the nation, Scientific Glass Technology
combines classroom study and hands-on laboratory techniques, technical
drawing and advanced fabrication.

This fall, the program is fully enrolled with 70 students with another 37
majoring in Glass Art and Applied Craft & Design.

SCC's glass programs are taught in a state-of-the-art facility that opened
in 2009.

The Samuel H. Jones Glass Education Center features a 10,000-square-foot
lab/studio honoring Stankard.

Built on the Salem County Improvement Authority's grounds in Alloway, the
center recovers landfill methane as an energy source for glassmaking.
