LECTURE ANNOUNCEMENT
"100 Years of Venetian Glass - 1866 to 1966"
by SHELDON BARR
Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 7:00PM
St. Michael's Church - 99th Street between Broadway and
Amsterdam Avenue
The New York Metropolitan Glass Club is pleased to announce that Glass Club
member Sheldon Barr will lead off the 2013-2014 season with a lecture on
Venetian glass over the period from 1866 through 1966. He will trace the
use of antique glass-making techniques and designs in the glass created over
this 100-year span. He will also detail auction results for major pieces of
Venetian glass over the past ten years.
Sheldon is a noted author and dealer in the Venetian glass of this period.
His first book, "Venetian Glass, Confections in Glass, 1855-1914," appeared
in 1998. It was followed by his second work, "Venetian Glass Mosaics,
1860-1917," published in 2008. His latest book, "Nineteenth Century
Venetian Glass Masterpieces," is nearing completion. Sheldon has written a
number of articles on Venetian glass, particularly for The Magazine
Antiques. He has lectured widely - locally as well as at Stanford
University and the Corning Museum of Glass.
Another fellow-member, Paul Doros, is the author of "the Art Glass of Louis
Comfort Tiffany" which will be released September 10. He will be holding a
book-signing prior to this meeting.
We have a new and exciting Club website which will make it easier for
members and the Club to stay in touch between meetings. Check it out at
www.nycglassclub.org. We value your input and would appreciate your
comments.
