Because you have a special interest in art glass, you are cordially invited to be a guest at the next meeting of The New York Metropolitan Glass Club, the only organization in New York devoted to art glass connoisseurship and the exploration of glassmaking from ancient Roman vessels to present day studio masterpieces.
Our 2014 season begins Tuesday evening, October 7th at 6:30 p.m. with a fascinating presentation by Dr. Gregory Merkel, an expert on iridescent glass, who will reveal the secret and unique techniques that make Tiffany, Steuben, Quezal and Loetz objects so distinctive.
This is the first in a series of monthly lectures about glassmaking and glass design that take place throughout the year. Meetings begin with a welcoming wine and cheese reception where we catch up with old friends, make new friends and maintain important contacts. Our diverse membership includes collectors, auction house experts, museum specialists, dealers, appraisers, teachers, authors and people who are just interested in learning about art glass. Following our receptions we have informative and entertaining presentations by some of the world’s leading glass experts.
The New York Metropolitan Glass Club is an easy way to stay current with glass related news, trends, sales, articles and events. Check out our website at <http://nycglassclub.us8.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=c607e2c8abc70fb75d7287c50&id=5222419e3b&e=4d183fc986> nycglassclub.org to learn more.
We hope you can join us on October 7th. Our meeting place is particularly apt for a glass club. It’s St. Michael’s Church, on 99th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue. The church’s interior was decorated by Louis Comfort Tiffany and includes gorgeous stained glass windows, Tiffany bronze appointments and an incredible Tiffany glass mosaic wall and columns. We will give you a guided tour of the church when we see you on October 7th. Just send your RSVP to <mailto:nycglassclub at gmail.com> nycglassclub at gmail.com and we will reserve a place for you.

The church was decorated by Louis C. Tiffany between 1895 and 1925 and is one of the only extant Tiffany interiors in the New York Metropolitan area. Though we meet in one of the meeting rooms, we regularly arrange tours of the sanctuary to view the wonderful windows, lamps and mosaics by Tiffany Studios.
