JOB TITLE: Assistant Manager, Glass Studio
BRANCH: Glass Studio
REPORTS TO: Glass Studio Manager

Opened in 2006, the postmodern Glass Pavilion is home to TMA's
world-renowned glass collection, featuring more than 5,000 works of art from
ancient to contemporary times. The 74,000-square-foot building also includes
galleries for special glass exhibitions, artist studios, demonstration
areas, and spaces for education, visitor relaxation, and special events.

The Glass Pavilion is-in itself-a work of art. All exterior and nearly all
interior walls consist of large panels of curved glass, resulting in a
transparent structure that blurs the boundaries between interior and
exterior spaces. The Glass Pavilion is located directly across Monroe Street
from the Main Museum and is open during regular Museum hours and admission
is free.

SUMMARY
This position assists the Glass Studio Manager in the daily operations of
the glass studio at the Toledo Museum of Art. The glass studio is a
multi-use, state of the art facility that is considered the cornerstone of
the Museum's Glass Pavilion and a significant site for Museum programming,
education and special events. The Assistant Manager has responsibility for
leading the technical staff in maintaining studio operations, which include
hot glass, flame working, kiln forming and stained glass studios as well as
a mold making and cold working shop. The position will be lead on all
maintenance related activity and assist in planning long-term projects
taking place in the Glass Studio.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

.        Manage the technical and logistical operations of the Glass
Studios, including supervising the maintenance of studio tools and
machinery, overseeing the fabrication shop, and maintaining adequate supply
levels.

.        Along with the Studio Manager, ensuring studios are opened and
closed according to operational needs.

.        Ensure that safety measures are in place and followed by those
utilizing the facility, including training of new staff in appropriate
safety procedures.

.        Responsibility for daily upkeep, basic maintenance, general
tidiness and orderliness of the glass studio facilities, equipment and
tools.

.        Maintain equipment inventory and work with Studio Manager to
facilitate any needed maintenance or repairs.

.        Ensures implementation of Museum events and activities held in the
studio.

.        Assist with implementation of the Guest Artist Pavilion Project
(G.A.P.P.) artist-in-residency program.

.        Other related duties as assigned by studio manager/assistant
managers.


RELATIONSHIPS

.        Reports to Glass Studio Manager

.        Supervises Glass Technicians, Studio Artists

.        Collaborates with Studio rentals and visiting artists

.        Liaises with Facilities team and outside vendors


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

.        Bachelor's degree with a minimum of two years' working in a glass
studio performing similar duties.

.        Minimum of 1 year experience managing a glass or art studio.

.        Basic mechanical knowledge of glass studio machinery, tools,
electrical and plumbing systems.

.        Experience with glass demonstrations, or at minimum experience
working with glass in an educational or practical glass studio environment.

.        Must have basic knowledge of typical glass-making processes and
practices as well as a general interest in and understanding of the history,
science, art, and practices of glassmaking.

.        Decision Making- Identifying and understanding issues, problems,
and opportunities; use effective approaches for choosing a course of action
or developing appropriate solutions; taking action that is consistent with
available facts, constraints, and probable consequences

.        Customer Focus - Proactively builds customer relationships; takes
responsibility for customer and loyalty. Makes customers and their needs a
primary focus.

.        Adaptability - Maintains effectiveness when experiencing changes in
work tasks or the work environment; adjusts effectively to work within new
work structures, processes, requirements, or cultures.

.        Communication- Must communicate effectively with other Museum
employees and the public, in small and large groups, in writing and in
speech.
